I love how you've put the characters in such a different situation from canon (and different from any of the AU fics I've read), but they're still so real and themselves.
Kara and Karl's friendship always makes me happy. I wish canon showed more of it, but I guess it's not really angsty enough for it to get much screentime unless Kara's angsting around Karl. Anyway, I liked you showing them in a nice, stable friendship.
